Early offense
Actions run in the first seconds of a half-court possession, against a defense that is back but not yet organized.
Why it is run. A defense that got back has still not matched up, and its big is often trailing. Early offense hits that seam with one quick action before the defense settles.
What beats it. Matching up while sprinting back, and having the big sprint rather than jog.
Trailer flip
The trailing big arriving at the top to take a reversal pass and swing the ball to the other side.
Why it is run. The trailing big is the one attacker the defense has not matched; taking the reversal at the top and swinging it in one motion gets the ball to the weak side before the defense has shifted.
What beats it. The big’s defender sprinting to the top with him so the reversal is contested, or the weak-side defenders shifting on the flight of the first pass.
